About Me

I am a life-long learner and am passionate about education, learning, and communications.

Critical thinking skills are a common denominator across my work and academic experiences. As artificial intelligence agents increase in importance for instructional designers, I believe that responsible use of AI to maintain bias-free content will continue to require human-centered analysis and review.

I have a Master of Education (MEd) in Curriculum and Pedagogy from the University of Toronto’s Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) with a specialization in Digital Technologies in Education and Comparative and International Development Education.

Courses include AI for education, instructional design, blended learning, and qualitative research (needs analysis).

I understand instructional design models like ADDIE, SAM, and backward design, as well as the application of learning theories to achieve course objectives. Ensuring that courses meet Universal Design for Learning and WCAG 2 accessibility criteria are also important considerations for me.

Previously, I was a Communications Consultant with the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) where I led the publications process, coordinating publication projects from beginning to end. This involved collaborating with external vendors as well as internal subject matter experts to ensure content accuracy, and a consistent look and feel aligned with our brand. In separate contracts, I wrote educational pieces for wide dissemination, edited technical papers for clarity and syntax, and managed the organization’s social media, designing engaging visualizations. These skills will lead to successes in instructional design.

In addition, I worked as an economist with a Canadian bank and I am a long-time volunteer with a small non-profit focusing on supporting education for girls, globally. In this capacity, I am a part of our communications and grant evaluation teams. In this capacity, I organized a workshop at the Comparative and International Education Society conference in Chicago, designing all outreach and coordinating content, and presentation delivery with our partners.

A few personal notes….

Originally from Montreal (Canada), I have lived in Charlotte since 2016. My adult kids and I became US citizens this year. On the weekends I like to explore areas around the Blue Ridge Mountains, hiking the trails and visiting the mountain towns (Blowing Rock is a favorite!). I have recently taken up paddle boarding in the waterways around Charlotte in search of some respite from the North Carolina summer heat. My Labradoodle, Lexie, enjoys the water as well. This winter, my son and I travelled a bit further afield, hiking in Sedona and the Grand Canyon — I tried my best to keep up with him on the trails.

I love reading and you can often find me with a book in hand. Feel free to explore my blog on a few of my favorite reads.
